6. Swachh Bharat Summer Internship

Swachh Bharat Summer Internship – 100 Hours of Swachhata’ is an extension to the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Government which was launched as a national movement on October 2nd, 2014. Being a part of this internship, it has offered me both a valuable learning experience on one side and a glimpse into various issues of social relevance in the village visited on the other. I chose Sus Gaon, Pune for the project. The rationale was to motivate people to take actions by themselves to achieve the goal of a clean village and India. To make this effort significant and more understandable tools such as Information Education Communication were used that targeted students & teachers in Sus Goan Zilla Panchayat Primary & Secondary School along with the presence of several stakeholders such as Sarpanch, school principal and teachers, a local village chief, and leaders etc. These stakeholders served the role of anchors to spread the message to the wider audience that helped spread awareness.

The activities undertaken included Art & Craft Competition, Hand wash Training, Cleanliness Drive, as well as sessions on Good Touch Bad Touch, Personal Hygiene and Waste Management. The cleanliness drive saw active participation of the villagers with great enthusiasm. This journey has imbibed into me the understanding and phenomenon of how a change can be brought upon, and not necessarily by being a part of the system since the change has to come from within in the form of willingness to impact the society. One can always give it to the world in whatever small way and that will make a difference. This experience has given me several moments to cherish all through my life also the wisdom and courage to change the things I can.
